AIHR - RG Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism

For Sustainable Value Creation, the sustainability module in the IHM Master degree in Service Management, a new case was needed. So, with my peers from the Research Group Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism Sarah Seidel and Elena, we wrote a new case about Aquis Great Barrier Reef Resort at the beginning of this school year. Sarah and I had attended a case study workshop during the EuroCHRIE in Manchester and there we learnt that there is an international competition and a case study journal on tourism and hospitality case studies. As we were quite happy with our case, we decided to challenge our skills and wanted to share it with our colleagues of other hospitality universities across the world.

Hence, we adjusted the case, and wrote teaching notes (similar to extended tutor instructions including a complete theoretical background, teaching approach, student evaluations etc.) and submitted it to the CHRIE’s yearly international case study competition.

Last week, just before the holiday weekend, we received an email with the result of our entry. We won first place! The three of us are incredibly proud of this achievement, and think it is great attention for Stenden, IHM/ITM and the Research Group in Sustainability and Tourism.

Even more so since we, as first prize winners, are asked to present the case at the international CHRIE conference; the case is going to be published in I-CHRIE’s case study journal and usually winning cases are additionally published on the website as good examples.

Best regards,

Femke
