Title book:

GETTING THE BEST OUT OF YOUR TRAVEL AND STAY ABROAD

and how to cope with reverse culture shock on returning home

PREPARE, GO, REFLECT, GROW!

In higher education, students are stimulated to spend a part of their study period abroad. This to give them the opportunity to learn intercultural competencies and skills that will prepare them for a globalizing labor market and/or intercultural work field. Upon returning to their home country, young people may experience reverse culture shock that has emotional, behavioral and cognitive aspects. This easy to read combined handbook/personal logbook is based on (master) research of one of the authors on this subject. It can help students to gain more insight into their experiences and gained skills, to reflect and to be able to better cope with reverse culture shock by providing tips / information before, during and after their stay abroad. The handbook provides students support during the transition from staying abroad to being home and helps them to integrate their experiences into their personal and professional lives. For example, tips are given on how to use these experiences and skills in their resumes and applications. In this way, students benefit from it and it supports the objectives of the educational institution.  Information about  reverse culture shock, self-reflection, insight into acquired skills and "transformative learning" is packaged in a format that appeals to young people, it will become their personal logbook of their study abroad period.  A book to keep!
