AIHR - RG Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism

Even though it may seem long ago due to the summer holiday, you may remember that Elena, Sarah and I won 1^st place in the I-CHRIE’s case study competition with our new SVC case used in the Master studies.

One of the conditions of accepting the award was that you had to present your winning case study at the yearly I-CHRIE summer conference. This year it was held during the last week of July, in Baltimore, USA.

Before and after presenting our wining case, I received a lot of compliments from other attendees who stated that it was a very tough competition, and that they were impressed with the content and structure of our case study. Furthermore, they thought the methods used (a multi-stakeholder dialogue) and the topic of the case (sustainability in hospitality and ethics) were very relevant and interesting.

The conference was an awesome experience, which gave interesting insights into the American hotel education sector. Additionally, it was a good opportunity to represent SHMS, and the prominent place sustainability has in our curriculum.
